Giveaway of audio version of His Eye Is on The Sparrow

EyeOnThe Sparrow

I was so excited after hearing the wonderful Audible recording of His Eye is On the Sparrow, my short memoir published by Shebooks that I want to share the experience with you.  I listened to it on my phone as I walked my neighborhood, the sun warming me, a breeze rustling the leaves around me.

Once again, my characters and the events were new and fresh. It’s a peculiar experience because I lived those events, wrote about them, and now here they are in another media and become fresh events. Three different versions of an event. Writing it, I tried to distill and capture the images, sounds, and dialogue as they happened. Hearing my words reacquaints me with the experience. And I learned about my characters and the era from a different vantage point

It was so much fun to hear my book, and I so love listening to books as I drive around doing errands or clean my house, I want to share this experience with you. So I’m giving away three.

Want more info? Here’s some info about the book on my website, and here’s the link to Audible.

And here’s how we’ll have fun together in the giveaway:

Have you listened to an audio book? A book on CD or tape? What was your experience? What’s the difference between reading a book and hearing one?  If you’ve never listened to a book, why not? Please, any comment at all will be part of the drawing. I will give away three audible books by drawing numbers from the people who responded and sending you the audible code by email.

The Giveaway will end on June 15.

Can’t wait to read what you think about the experience of listening to a book! And hope YOU win!

So please comment at the end of this post!

I have never listened to a book. But, I am taking long walks these days when I can fit them in and would love to be taken away with a story as I walk. Like having Ann with me on my walk!

i love listening to books on drives too or while I’m cleaning my house. I listened to Christmas cookie club when I was on my way home for the holidays– it was perfect and got me into the mood of the season. Can’t wait for this one, it’s short enough that I can hear the whole thing on a weekend getaway to the beach!

Congratulations, Ann, on the audio recording of “His Eyes is on The Sparrow”! It’s so wonderful to be able to listen to great stories like yours and really take them in word by word and marvel at how a whole world comes into being. You feel like a child being read to and that’s always a magical experience. Thanks for sharing the magic with all your readers!

I have had mixed results with audio books – BUT – the ones that I have loved have been books I haven’t read before. My ‘bad’ experiences were with books I’d read and loved and then the audio was no where near the voice I heard in my head. I’ve had good experiences with listening to books I’ve read before too. I think quality is key, and that some genres like memoirs lend themselves to story telling!

Mazel Tov! on your new book. You have done some wonderful writing. I love listening to audio books in the car. I do a lot of distance driving, and audio books are engaging and keep me alert. My favorite aspect of listening to them, is when a narrator is chosen who uses different voices/accents for the various characters. It brings the book to life.

Love audible books. I listen while sewing

  8. Cecilia says:

I love audible books, if the story and the voice are good is like, I will get lost in the climax; well, just like making love, lol!

  9. Barbara Green says:

Love books in any firm available. Audio is great for trips

  10. Paula Broshar says:

Sounds like something I would enjoy listening to, when Grandma takes a “time out”. LOL Actually, I would love to win this for my mother (88), who is bind & recently went into a care facility. She would love this. TY & Gnu!

    Hi Ann,
I spoke with you earlier today and was lucky enough to find out that you aren’t only a writer, but you also have some of your books on audio. I just got off work and am barely making it by your deadline. I listen to audio books on my way to work, during my dinner hour at work and on my way home from work. I’m anxious to read about you and the types of books you write. From what I heard it sounds like they are right up my alley. Thanks for giving 3 of us a chance to get to know you!

I had so much fun with this contest. I loved the responses – some of which were sexy witticisms and some of which were quite touching. Books, reading, mean so much to so many of us. It’s a way to experience another life, another time, and another country. And listening to a book is a slightly different experience than reading one.

This giveaway was a new experience because the comments revealed a bit about each person. The contest enrollees were no longer simply names or addresses, but women who liked to listen while sewing, or while driving to work. One hoped her mom, who was just admitted to a nursing home, would get it. Another said listening to a book reminded her of being a child when her mom read to her. Several liked my idea of listening while taking a walk. And one I met at her place of business and she talked about loving to listen while commuting to and from work, and then entered the contest.

I wanted everyone to win. I felt a bit sad for those who couldn’t!

So then I put the names on slips of paper and put them in a quart-measuring cup. I closed my eyes and pulled out three pieces of paper. They have been notified and I hope they have downloaded the audio to His Eyes Is on The Sparrow and enjoy an hour or so listening to my book.
And I thank all of you for participating and making the contest so much fun for me!

    Ann
